Dodecanese Islands
The Dodecanese archipelago in the south-east of the Aegean Sea is the sunniest corner of Greece. The 12 large and several smaller islands with crystal clear water and soft sandy beaches promise an ideal holiday destination.
The two largest islands are Rhodes and Kos, Kastellorizo, Simi, Halki, Kasos are smaller, mostly rocky islands, while Nisyros is a real exception, it was created by a volcano that is still steaming today.
Kalymnos
Kalymnos is mountainous in nature, with three limestone ranges running through the island. Its capital, and also the largest town is Póthia, which faces Kos from the southern shores. As one of the most beautifully preserved Greek town, Eliniká is a must-see on the island.
Pserimos
As the small island is relatively far from Kos and Kalymnos, it is an ideal place to relax. Perfect location for an intimate, romantic holiday.
Karpathos
The island with many streams, pine groves, vineyards and olive groves, rocky stretches and shores where Mediterranean seals live, cannot be called monotonous. It offers awesome conditions for nature-lovers and those who want to get a taste of the true Greek traditions.
Patmos
It is the most beautiful of the smaller islands of the Dodecanese. Apostle St. John wrote the Book of Revelation in one of the caves of the island, once all Patmos Island was owned by the monks. Patmos is a truly cosmopolitan island, with such returning guests like royal families.
Halki
Halki is basically a quiet, peaceful island. It is also called the Island of peace and friendship, where young people from different nations meet annually.
Simi
In terms of beauty, no Greek island can offer as much as Simi. Although the island is largely barren, its only significant town, Simi is fantastic. The shores around the bay are filled with Italian-style mansions. It can be uncomfortably crowded in summertime, the majority of the tourists are Greeks and Italians.
Nisyros
It bears almost no resemblance to the other islands, as it is much more lush and greener. Nisyros is bordered by hills, but the interior of the island is hollow, with vents steaming around the bottom of a crater. Most tourists come to the island to see this crater.
Kos
There are not as many attractions as in Rhodes. Swimming, sunbathing, dining or partying are the best programs on the island.
Rhodes
The island attracts tourists with its beautiful sandy beaches, guaranteed sunshine, with a real Greek atmosphere and some historical sights. Rhodes has all the qualities that a person looking to relax expects from a Greek island in the Aegean.
