The tropical Caribbean Sea is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico on the Caribbean Plateau. It is bordered on the south by Venezuela, Colombia and Panama, on the west by Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula, on the north by the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica and Puerto Rico) and on the east by the Lesser Antilles. The area is collectively referred to as the Caribbean.
