Italy

Italy includes the Po Valley, the Appennine Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean, Sicily and Sardinia, as well as a number of smaller islands.

Its capital is Rome, a historic cosmopolitan city as the cradle of ancient Rome and the Catholic Church.

It has two active volcanoes, on the east coast of Sicily the Mount Etna, and the Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano on the European continent, in the Campania region, 9 km east of Naples.
