Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal

The Caledonian Canal is a waterway connecting Loch Ness, Loch Oich and Loch Lochy in the Caledonian Trench in Scotland. The construction of the canal began in 1804 under the direction of engineer Thomas Telford, and it took 18 years before all sections of the canal connecting the three lakes were completed. It is 88 km long and can be used by fishing and sports boats due to its shallow depth.
