Sporades and the Chalkidiki Peninsula

The Sporades is an archipelago in the Aegean Sea in Greece. The name means scattered. The group is located off the coast of Thessaly and central Greece.

The beauty of Chalkidiki is defined by the sight of the unmistakable Greek villages, the clear, deep blue sea, the white sand, pebble beaches and the harmony of the evergreen vegetation.
Kassandra is the first protrusion from the west. Here you can find plenty of resorts and hotels.
The second protrusion is called Sithonia. Sarti is one of the most popular towns on the Sithonia Peninsula, where the blue of the sea merges with the sandy coastline and the crystal clear waters.
The third protrusion is Athos on the east side. In this part you can find the Mount Athos, from which it takes its name. The Athos Peninsula has one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country due to its valleys, ravines and beautiful shores

Skiathos:

It lies between Athens and Thessaloniki in the Aegean Sea as a member of the Sporades archipelago. The island does not have many attractions, swimming and relaxation are the main program. However, if you want to go hiking in the pine-covered mountains, you can do it all.
It is worth taking a walk to the small peninsula on the east side of the bay, where the remains of a small fortress can also be seen. The promenade also offers magnificent views of Skaithos Town.
Koukounaries Beach is one of the most beautiful beach on the island.

Skopelos:
This island is the greenest island in the Aegean Sea, the second largest island in the Sporades. The green of the dense pine forests merges with the blue of the sea and the sky, providing a magnificent view. No wonder the movie Mamma Mia was shot on this island.

Alonissos:

The island of seals, the seals live in the protected waters of the Alonissos National Marine Park.

The world’s first underwater museum is located on this island. So far, only archaeologists and specially licensed divers have been able to admire and explore ancient shipwrecks resting deep in the Aegean Sea, but from 2019, amateur divers can also visit the wreck of the Peristera.

Kyra Panagia:
It is a Greek island in the Sporades. It is administratively part of the municipality of Alonnisos in the Sporades regional unit. The island is also known by the name of Pelagos and rarely Pelagonisi.
Kyra Panagia is a small, uninhabited island with two natural harbors, Agios Petros and Planitis. From the two of them, the bay of Planitis is the safest to moor your ship. This bay was used as a pirate shelter in the Middle Ages.

Skiros:
Skiros might be the least popular of the Sporades islands, but it is one of the most beautiful ones. Untouched by international tourists, Skyros is one of those Greek islands with unique character and tradition.
Chora, the main town of Skyros, is one of the most picturesque settlements on the island.
Skyros beaches are beautiful and secluded, so they’re ideal for those who seek privacy. Molos, a long coast with crystal clear waters and tourist facilities, is the best beach in Skyros.

Weather:
Greece has a typical Mediterranean climate with an average annual temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. The seasonal weather is relatively constant, with temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius. Summer is humid, with temperatures  around 35 degrees Celsius, especially in July and August.
Sometimes there are showers and storms, but this kind of weather lasts for up to a day.
Most of the rainfall falls in the northwestern part of Greece and in Corfu during the winter. The sea temperature is around 20-25 degrees Celsius from April to November.

Wind:
The wind and sailing conditions in the Aegean sea are ideal and predictable, blowing north-west at Force 2 to 5 between May and September. In spring and autumn, the wind is less strong and blows usually from south-west.

Banking:
The currency is the Euro.
Master and Visa cards are accepted widely in larger stores and restaurants but you may need cash for independent, small businesses. You can find ATMs at the marinas and banks. Banking hours are Monday to Friday (8:00am to 2:00pm).
