It is one of the most densely populated countries in Europe.
The Netherlands consists of twelve provinces. The country borders Germany to the east, Belgium to the south, and the North Sea coastline to the west and north. It shares maritime borders with both neighboring countries as well as the United Kingdom.

Its capital and largest city is Amsterdam, but the center of government and parliament are located in The Hague. The port of Rotterdam is the port with the largest traffic in Europe
